Spring Clean Your Closet #Organized

Rising temperatures, blossoming blooms, and sunny skies are sure signs that Spring has sprung. With the arrival of warmer weather comes the anticipated debut of shorter hemlines, frilly tanks and sexy sandals and for many of us that means a complete closet overhaul.

I am a minimalist at heart, my downtown Boston studio apartment thanks me daily for that. Any chance I have to sort through and organize my belongings is a tiny dream come true.I find myself repeating the phrase "out with the old, in with the new" far too often. Spring is my perfect excuse to clean out my closets and dressers and donate any unnecessary items that I have accumulated over the winter months. I challenge you to do the same.

With the right mindset and storage solutions you will be on your way to a less cluttered, frustration free lifestyle. Give yourself a full day to sort, launder, trash, and donate the contents of every nook and cranny of your closet and dresser drawers. No belt is looked over, and no broken heeled shoe left behind. I stick with the "Season" rule; If I am on the fence for instance about a sweater and realize I didn't wear it once through the fall and  winter months it's headed straight for the donation box. This simple rule will amaze you and give you a clear understanding of just how many items you are holding onto for absolutely no reason.

After you have sifted through each piece it is time to hop in your car for a well deserved shopping trip. The assistance of four key items will have your closet looking like a page out of Home & Garden magazine.

WIth your shopping trip complete, you can guarantee to feel re-energized and ready to go. Take the remainder of the night off, a fresh start will do both you and your closet good. Begin the next day by unwrapping your newly purchased organizational products and let the put back process begin. You will begin to se results immediately, and the finished product will take your breath away.

Is this something you will be doing this spring?

The Long & The Short Of It: White Shorts

As a Minnesota girl living in the south, it feels a lot more like Summer than it does Spring. I know for a lot of you Summer is all about the short shorts, for others summer means busting out the Bermudas, but for me summer is all about the Capri Pants and Skimmers.  I don’t really have thighs that were made for shorts, of any kind.

Like clockwork White Denim becomes a trend from May right up till Labor Day when tuck away our whites and bring out the creams. Glossy magazines always make it seem like they’ve stumbled upon the trend for the first time. But you and I know the truth, white denim and/or chino is always hot for summer.  Since white denim and/or chinos might not be part of your everyday look, I wanted to find options that weren’t too expensive, but that will hold up after a few washes.  I’ve broken them down by inseam, so no matter how much leg you want to show, you’ve got options.  For my plus size readers, don’t think I forgot about you, I’ve included plenty of great plus size options.

In The Market For: The Perfect Key Chain

About two years ago I moved from Ohio to North Carolina.  When I got to the new house, the keys were on a simple grosgrain ribbon.  I told myself that once I unpack and got everything situated, I would pick out a new keychain.  Two years my keys are still on that grosgrain ribbon.  That ribbon much worse for the wear needs to go.  Which is I’m in the Market for a new keychain.   I narrowed it down to a few of my favorites and paired them with the type of girl who would carry it.  The real question is, what kind of keychain girl are you?  I think I’m somewhere between a Baggu Loop and the Kate Spade Hold The Phone.

The Remix: Yellow Cardigan

The yellow cardigan.  I like to look at Sunny aka Yellow Cardigan as my garment BFFF (Best Fashion Find Forever).  Putting it on can make me instantly feel happier, plus it doesn't hurt that I always get compliments when I wear it.  Today I'm taking you and my yellow cardigan to work, a fantastic cocktail party and bumming around the house the morning after.

Cubical

I have to be honest I’m not a huge fan of bare arms, and since I’m pretty busty, I need to wear a real bra at all times.  By a real bra I mean, thick straps and 4 to 5 closure hooks.  This means racerback tanks with teeny tiny straps are not a go to item for me.  Which is why a great cardigan is a must.  The cardigan covers my bra and lets me wear cute tanks.

Cocktail

Stand out in the crowd with the pop of coral in this look.  Plus the Color Mix Statement Necklace is a great ice breaker.

Cardigan // Dress // Necklace // Earrings // Flip Flops // Clutch // Cocktail

Bed

This look happens to be my personal favorite.  I love spending the day in bed doodling, journal and making to do lists.

Trend Better: Everyday Emerald #ColorMeExcited

If you are anything like me you were absolutely over the moon when Pantone announced emerald as its 2013 color of the year. This proved to be the perfect excuse to add emerald and its family of greens to my otherwise neutral wardrobe. Giving it a much-needed boost of life and freshness.

As I started incorporating emeralds I began falling even more in love and began looking for ways to showcase my obsession without going overboard. Instead of reaching for a solid green summer dress I opted for an understated green cross body bag. I forwent the urge to splurge on an emerald cigarette pant and chose an emerald sandal. The green trench I passed up was eye-catchingly stunning but decided on a toned down green bracelet instead. Simple changes in your thought process allow you to take a trend you are crazy about and integrate it into your everyday look.

Instead of taking a trend and running with it, try scaling back the portions, which allows for a bolder more fashion forward look. Wearing one smaller piece that showcases the “it look” of the moment allows for versatility and wear ability. As the trend tapers off all is not lost, as your small pieces will still work beautifully with a classically filled closet. Often times less is more, and in this instance it couldn't prove to be more true!
